Program Updates - BC
Z B.C. teachers from over 100 schools trained to empower students to save lives!
In April 2005, the BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) and its paramedics’ union, the Ambulance Paramedics of BC (APBC), established a partnership with the ACT Foundation with the goal of bringing the ACT High School CPR program to all B.C. high schools. The goal of this initiative is to see 50,000 B.C. students trained in CPR by their high school teachers each year, significantly improving the province’s capacity for bystander CPR.
The BCAS and APBC made a commitment of $270,000 to the ACT Foundation in support of program implementation and to also cover start-up costs for the first 20 high schools taking part in the program.
Dr. Jim Christenson, BCAS VP Medical Programs, is the Medical Director for the High School CPR Program in B.C.
ACT is currently reaching out to all interested schools and fundraising for mannequins and other necessary materials to get the program established.
ACT's aim is to see every Canadian teenager graduate from high school with CPR skills and knowledge to save lives. ACT is spearheading high school CPR programs in communities across Canada.
