Program Updates - Quebec

Quebec Health Minister Philippe Couillard hosts CPR Day at the National Assembly.
The ACT High School CPR program in Quebec is more popular than ever. The school year 2007-08 will start with more than 155 participating schools. And over 23,000 students will be trained this year. Upon full Quebec-wide implementation, the program will reach 375 schools and 75,000 students each year.
The ACT Foundation has raised over $ 800,000 from the government, the private sector, and the community in Quebec. This includes the October 2005 announcement of a $300,000 commitment from Quebec Health Minister Philippe Couillard to support the ACT High School CPR Program in Quebec. Support from private sector includes a major provincial commitment of $ 200,000 from Sun Life Financial. Other program partners include Bell Canada, Giant Tiger, Hydro-Quebec, Jean Coutu Group, McKesson Canada, RBC Royal Bank and Scotiabank. A number of Kiwanis clubs and other community partners are also involved. The Montreal-based J.W. McConnell Family Foundation has also made a $ 315,000 donation to the ACT Foundation to support ACT’s community coordination role in helping schools throughout the province set up the CPR program.
