CPR Guidelines
Attention Phys. Ed. Teachers!: What to do if you received your initial ACT Foundation Two-Day Teacher Training Workshop or Refresher Training prior to August 2006.
Released in late 2005, the new CPR guidelines are coming into effect in Fall 2006. Teachers who completed their initial two-day Teacher Training Workshop or Refresher Training prior to August 2006 were trained under the old CPR guidelines.
The guideline changes are minimal for the Heartsaver Level (A), which is the course you teach to your students through the ACT High School CPR Program. This means the effect that the new guidelines have on how you teach the ACT High School CPR Program to your students is easy to understand and easy to implement. You can update yourself on the few changes affecting the Heartsaver Level by downloading the document “Highlights of the 2005 Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR Guidelines that affect the ACT High School CPR Program” available below.
Beyond the Heartsaver Level (A), there are additional guideline changes that affect the more extensive Level C CPR course you received on Day 1 of your Teacher Training Workshop. Please note that this time around, when you are due for your Refresher Training (required every 3 years after your initial training) you will be required to take a full-day of training rather than the usual half day refresher in order to ensure your understanding of the new guidelines. You can update yourself on the changes affecting the Level C CPR course by downloading the document “2005 Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care: Comparison chart of key changes” available below.
Please contact your local CPR training agency if you have any questions about the new guidelines.
Please note: The 2006 editions of the ACT Student Manual and School-Based Model for Teachers are updated with the new guidelines. Both are available for download here: (To come!)
